Yes! Yessssssssss! I was totally thinking of Sandwich when I was writing this and then completely forgot to include it! It. Was. So. Good. I loved it. Such a great summer book too. Loved the descriptions of the food too lol
Sitting under the patio umbrella with a good book and iced tea. Grilling everything! Puzzle pieces on the table. Ice cream cones. The air conditioning of a movie theater on a hot day. The smell of watering the garden. That point in the evening when it's dusk, but the stars start to make an appearance.
Ahhhhhhh. Can I just say ditto to all of this! Yes! I had totally forgotten about the pleasure of eating frozen junior mints in a pleasantly air conditioned theatre- yes!
Lovely post. I really need to pay more attention to enjoying the summer. My diary is relatively empty in June so there's space for some summery activities, not just weeding in the garden.
So this is maybe not strictly analog but I am very interested in genealogy and as an extension of that, I go out to cemeteries and throw on a podcast or music and use my phone to document headstones for Find A Grave dot com. Sometimes people have specific requests for photos of their relatives and it's nice to be able to connect them!
What a great activity for summer! :) My husband and I enjoy visiting cemeteries, often when we're on vacation. What an awesome idea to connect folks with their ancestors, too. I didn't know about Find a Grave.com so thank you for sharing!!
Hello former Arizonan! Isn't Edgefield the best?! I think we're going like three times this summer. :) And WOOT! to nostalgic summers, hope yours is epic.
The part about Tuesdays in February feeling like Tuesdays in July when you’re sitting in front of a screen really hit home and made a lot of sense! Summer is filled with nostalgia for me, with so much experienced through the senses and childhood reminders (swimming, thunder storms, grape soda, sunscreen, gardening). Thank you for the reminder of being intentional with how I experience summer as an adult 🌻
I love this list, and your reflections resonate with me deeply. I really miss the feeling of summer from my childhood.
I'm saving Emma Straub's new novel, American Fantasy, for my fourth of July beach weekend read. It sounds like the perfect beach read / summer novel: its set on a cruise ship and celebrates & takes seriously the pursuit of pure joy.
Thanks for the book recommendation! I just checked it out and you're right, it seems like the perfect summer weekend read. Can't wait to pick up a copy before vacation!
This has made me nostalgic for the summers when my girls were little and before I worked full time. I remember planning activities for us to do, books to read, creating a summer Pinterest board, reading all the parenting blogs (back in the day!). They're young adults now and so the summers are different but this reminds me to enjoy all the moments
Love your photos and stories of summer joy! I am always excited when the longer and warmer days arrive in Oregon. I'm attentive to the colorful blooms, singing birds and beautiful green landscape that we are so fortunate to have around us. I wake up earlier, tell myself to slow down a bit and remember to fully embrace this glorious season in the PNW. DQ is a favorite for us too- a long-standing tradition to stop for a cone on our return home from day hikes, drives and exploration!
Summer is not my favorite season but your email/newsletter has me feeling inspired! 🌞
Haha me too! I mean c'mon Autumn has apple cider donuts. That's a no brainer lol
And jack-o-lanterns! 🎃
Absolutely love your ideas for an analog summer! And I am drooling over the beautiful and lush plant collection on your deck! 💚
Idea for a summer read:
Sandwich by Catherine Newman (yearly family vacation in New England as a woman in midlife, with all its joys and sorrows)
This is the second time I’ve seen this title this week! Adding to my list.
It's so good! Highly recommend! :)

Glad I’m not the only one drooling 😂 the pots look gorgeous and very summery!
Hear, hear, for Summer Magic for Adults!
I have a little notebook an artist friend for me that will have the PHYSICAL evidence of Summer.
Also, I love DQ soft serve.
Yes! I like I need a lot more childhood magic as an adult. It's a theme! And I love the idea of having a summer notebook too. :)

For me, summer means kayaking at the lake every chance I get.
Yes! That is something we always say we need to do more of too.

Thanks Sharon! Glad you enjoyed it. Hope you find some great summer vibes on the horizon! : )

I, too, had my Arizona summers growing up and am now in the PNW.
I see you Edgefield! My husband and I end up seeing a concert there about once a year.
This summer has nostalgia written all over it. Can't wait!!

One Golden Summer by Carley Fortune; Ecology of A Cracker Childhood by Janisse Ray; Mary Alice Monroe’s Beach House series.
Thanks for the suggestions! Added to my list!
Oh, this makes me breathe easier just reading these lovely ideas!

"Now we have to be the keepers of our own seasons." We must — and we will <3
You thought of everything!
